Creating and Managing a Tiered Collection

Many museums find that in addition to their permanent collection of artifacts that it is useful to have objects that can be handled in educational programs or props to complete exhibits. But maintaining collections of objects with different standards of care and documentation requires clear guidelines and plans. Hear how Midway Village Museum has handled four levels of artifacts that serve different purposes in their operations.

Laura B. Furman - Curator of Collections, Midway Village Museum

Laura Furman holds an M.A. in Public History from Indiana University. She joined the staff of Midway Village Museum in 2006 as the Curator of Collections. 

Kim Ortega - Assistant Curator, Midway Village Museum

Kim Ortega is a Master of Public Administration graduate from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and has been with Midway Village Museum as the Assistant Curator since August 2017.
